Profile and Circumstance
- Yobe State is in Nigeria Northeastern region and is exposed to the effects of climate adjustment, which includes progressively uncertain rainfall patterns, recurring droughts, and severe flooding that possesses degraded large hectares of the land in the State.
- The National Hydrological Solutions Agency (NIHSA) possesses issued warnings indicating the likelihood of flooding in most Local Government Zones (LGAs) of Yobe State as the rainy season approaches and intensifies.
- These alerts bring to attention the immediate need for strong preparedness and efficient flood risk reduction plans at the local level.
- The Agro-Climate Adaptability in Semi-Arid Landscape (ACReSAL) Project is designed to strengthen the adaptive capacity of networks and institutions in response to climate adjustment.
- A key part of this attempt is waste management (SWM), which is vital to climate adaptability, especially in flood prone zones. Poorly handled reliable waste, which includes plastics, organic materials, and other refuse, often clogs water flow systems operational structures, intensifies flooding, infects water suppliers, and produce breeding grounds for disease vectors.
- At present, the On-site Management Panels (SMCs) under the Yobe State ACReSAL Project faces significant differences in the practical competencies needed for efficient waste management, especially in the face of rising flood risks, and the ongoing building to handle the erosion menace that can be jeopardized if the final users are not empowered on risk reduction measures.
- As the focal NGO for the Yobe State ACReSAL Project, Worldwide Peace Development (GPD) is dedicated to strengthening the capacity of local participants to address these pressing ecological hurdles.
- In line with this dedication, GPD is looking for the solutions of a certified and skilled waste management advisor (Individual or Firm) with proven competence in maintainable and climate resilient reliable waste management procedures to assist the project’s execution and results.
Approach and Initiatives
The advisor will collaborate with the Worldwide Peace Development Project Team in the execution of this consultancy. Particularly, the advisor is anticipated to adopt a highly interactive, practical, and participatory document structure with both theory and practical sessions.
Key Initiatives:
- Inception Documentation
- 2 day workshops
- Use of participatory, workshop style development data layouts
- Formulate development documented guides
- Pre and post development evaluations
- Concluding Development documentation.

Industry experience:
- A minimum of 5 years of demonstrated expertise in designing, executing, or coordinating reliable waste management programs especially in rural or flood-prone situations.
- Deep knowledge of the nexus between waste management, climate adaptability, and community health.
- Proven expertise carrying out group level development and skills development for local compliance systems
- Understanding with climate-resilient and environmentally maintainable waste procedures, which includes composting, segregation at acquire, water flow systems management, and recycling..
- Verified ability to formulate development documented guides, action strategies, and carry out pre/post evaluations.
- Outstanding documented and spoken communication competencies in English; expertise in local languages in Yobe State is a plus.
