UNICEF Nigeria aids the Government of Nigeria at national and sub-national levels in offering equitable, maintainable, and climate-resilient water, sanitation, and hygiene solutions to children and their families, through the design and execution of projects at the national and sub-national levels

Objective Of The Task

Nigeria is one of the top ten most climate adjustment at risk countries in the world. UNICEF in partnership with government governing bodies and FCDO in Nigeria possesses conceptualize an creative project ‘Climate Resilient Structure for Basic Solutions’ (CRIBS) that goals to scale a model for evaluating climate risks and vulnerabilities of primary healthcare facilities (PHCs) and primary schools and subsequently recognizing and executing interventions to make those facilities more resilient. The first stage of the CRIBS project (2024-2025) successfully designed and tested an approach for evaluating facility level climate risks and vulnerabilities, recognizing interventions to reduce those risks and executing those interventions in primary healthcare (PHC) facilities and schools in Kano and Jigawa states. UNICEF executed climate resilient interventions in more than 39 PHCs and 45 primary schools in Kano and Jigawa states. In the CRIBS second stage (CRIBS II), UNICEF intends to work alongside the government of Nigeria at the national and state levels to scale the CRIBS approach to several states (Bauchi, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, and Katsina) in Nigeria.

Scope of Work

The advisor is essential to assist the execution of CRIBS project in Bauchi, Enugu, Gombe, Jigawa, Kaduna, and Katsina states by leading the building organizing, execution and risk mitigation strategy of building of climate resilient interventions in primary healthcare facilities and schools, in target LGAs in those six states (estimated 30).

Outputs/Results

  • Inception documentation with a structured approach for CRIBS building QA.
  • QA of the survey, design and invoice of quantities (BOQs) preparations.
  • Development of an online building advancement tracking instrument for use by on-site Engineers.
  • On a weekly basis supervising of the building projects (estimated 150) and exchanging the advancement charts/summaries.
  • Building supervisions, QA and execution assist to CRIBS teams in Site Workspaces.

At least Qualifications

Postgraduate degree in Civil Engineering, Building Management, Development Studies, Economics, Community health, Public health, Public Management, Engineering, Environment, Climate Adjustment and any other relevant field. Some expertise in climate adaptability work would be in-demand. Applicable professional background can be assessed as a substitute for a higher academic qualification. The advisor shall possess at least 10 years’ expertise in building management with competencies in climate resilient infrastructures development in rural situations. Prior expertise with UN agencies would be a plus. S/he should also possess a reliable logical and skilled in writing in English language, with evidence of possessing done similar kinds of work at the national and sub-national level. Samples of documented work could be questioned for, if needed. Verbal abilities in Hausa language would be beneficial. Fluency in English (verbal and documented) is essential. Fluency in Hausa language is an asset, and a desirable asset.
