National Advisor - Children in Armed Dispute, which includes Armed Violent at United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) in Abuja

Profile

• The objective of this consultancy is to strengthen UNICEF’s capacity to protect and address the needs of children affected by armed dispute and armed violence in Nigeria.
• The advisor will offer IT assistance and direction on contingency organizing, supervising, and aligned action across sectors to guarantee efficient protection responses.
• Specific attention will be provided to children vulnerable of hiring process and use by armed groups, sexual and gender-based violence, family segregation, and other grave violations.
• The consultancy will also assist the development of advance notice operational structures, improve the capacity of employees and associates to address crises including children in dispute-affected zones, and offer technical input on the financial and programmatic components of humanitarian interventions dealing with armed violence.

Scope of Work:

• The Advisor will assist UNICEF Nigeria’s Child Protection Section in strengthening crisis preparedness, response, and child rights supervising via the steps below primary duties:
• Child Rights Supervising Status updates and Response:
• Assist the supervising and status updates of child rights violations, which includes for children affected by armed violence in non-crisis settings.
• Support to the design, organizing, and supervising of the Handover Procedure for children encountered in the course of armed dispute in Nigeria and the Lake Chad Basin Region.
• Synchronization and Secretariat Processes:
• Serve as Secretariat for the Group of Friends of Children and Armed Dispute (GOF-CAAC) in Nigeria, making sure efficient synchronization, information exchange, and client engagement of initiatives.
• Serve as the Abuja-based Crisis Focal Point for the Child Protection Section, assisting synchronization, status updates, and response actions.
• Skills development and Development:
• Assist the design, company, and dispatch of crisis preparedness and response development for UNICEF employees, associates, and regional standby Crisis-management Teams.
• Strengthen workspace and work collaboratively capacity in crisis preparedness, synchronization, and response through workshops, technical direction, and simulation exercises.
• Crisis Preparedness and Organizing:
• Assist the development, updating, and execution of country contingency strategies and advance notice mechanisms to improve preparedness for possibility crises.
• Engage during planning of crisis-management strategies and check adherence across sectors, which includes funding source distribution.
• Offer regulatory framework and programme guidance on crisis management concerns, presenting direction and direction to strengthen preparedness and response mechanisms.

At least Qualifications

• Postgraduate degree (Master’s or equivalent) in Community-related Sciences, Law, International Development, Public Regulatory framework, Humanitarian Affairs, or a relevant field.
• A first-level academic qualification integrated with a minimum of 5 years of progressively in charge industry experience may be accepted in lieu of an postgraduate degree.
• Specialist development/accreditation in crisis preparedness, child protection, or project coordination is an asset.
