Accountabilities

  • Formulate and execute efficient compliance-related plans to guarantee Sahara Power Group’s adherence with relevant legal provisions, rules, permits, and codes.
  • Build and preserve solid connections with authorities and primary stakeholders which includes NERC, TCN, NISO, GACN, BPE, NGIC, NNPC, Gas Suppliers, Qualified Clients, Ministry of Power, NUPRC, NMDPRA, and other applicable government ministries and agencies.
  • Track and evaluate compliance-related, legislative, and regulatory framework progress updates in the electricity and gas markets, advising the MD/CEO and strategic leadership on possibility effects and strategic responses.
  • Head and organize the organization’s involvement in compliance-related filings, authorizing methods, public hearings, discussions, and tariff assessments to protect business interests.
  • Stand for Sahara Power Group in industry associations which includes the Affiliation of Power Production Companies (GenCos) and organize collaborations with other GenCos, DisCos, NBET, and applicable market participants on compliance-related and market processes matters.
  • Proactively recognize and oversee compliance-related risks affecting Sahara Power Group’s processes and new business programs, endorsing risk reduction plans for executive review.
  • Coordinate internal comprehension of compliance obligations across Sahara Power Opcos by assisting business and business-related teams with analysis of rules and embedding adherence culture.
  • Work alongside Business-related, Lawful, Processes, and Project teams to guarantee compliance obligations are embedded in deal discussions, project development, and business implementation.
  • Oversee the organization’s connection with market operators which includes TCN and NISO to guarantee business adherence, grid code qualifications, dispatch obligations, and efficient grid interface for all power plants.
  • Preserve a DB of permits, licenses, compliance-related entries, adherence due dates, and guarantee promptness renewals and entries.
  • Track and answer to management on participant relation initiatives, compliance-related entries, adherence status, and key progress updates affecting Sahara Power Group’s interests.
  • Lead Sahara Power Group’s support endeavors on industry reforms, market regulations, and regulatory framework programs to advance a viable and attractive power sector.
  • Assist solution of industry business and compliance-related misalignments which includes market payments, grid restrictions, gas distribution rules, and associated concerns affecting plant processes.
  • Any other obligations that may be allocated to me by the Corporate head of Sahara Power Group.

Qualifications 

  • Bsc in Law, Engineering, Economics, Political Science, Public Regulatory framework, or relevant field.
  • MSC (Master of business administration, LLM, or Energy Regulatory framework/Rule)
  • 10 - 15 years total industry experience.
  • A minimum of 5–7 years in a top level compliance-related/adherence position within a controlled industry (e.g., power, petroleum sector, telecoms, banking).
  • Established history of relation with authorities and regulatory bodies.
  • Expertise top adherence plan and coordinating cross-operational teams.

Specialist Qualifications:

  • Law/Rule: BL (for lawyers in Nigeria) or LLM in Energy/Compliance-related Law.
  • Adherence: Accredited Adherence & Ethics Specialist (CCEP or CCEP-I) International Adherence Affiliation (ICA) Certification in Compliance, Risk & Adherence.
  • Risk mitigation strategy: Accredited Risk Manager (CRM) or ISO 31000 Risk mitigation strategy Accreditation.
  • Sector-Specific: For Energy/Power, applicable qualifications in Electricity Market Processes, Grid Code Adherence, or Gas Rules.

Key Competencies and Skills:

  • Strong insight of applicable regulations, rules, and market processes.
  • Regulatory framework evaluation and legislative tracking.
  • Participant relation at top level government and industry levels.
  • Strategic support and bargain.
  • Robust documentation drafting, visual communication, and public hearing depiction competencies.
  • Capability to analyze and execute compliance-related modifications across organizational processes.
  • Crisis management for compliance-related disputes.
