Analysis Team supervisor, Qualitative at Malaria Consortium in Kebbi

Objective of the Task

The objective of the task is to participate analysis advisors that will carry out qualitative surveys (FGDs and KIIs).

Scope of Task

The entire goal of this consultancy is to assist MC in creating evidence for an efficient hybrid model of malaria vaccine dispatch in highly seasonal malaria transmission settings. This includes carrying out qualitative survey to evaluate the practicality and acceptability of executing the hybrid malaria vaccine immunization with different dispatch approaches.

Structured approach:

• The qualitative survey will draw on a structure of creates significant in viability assessments outlined by Proctor et al (2011) to formulate topic advisors and zones of questioning for both Target group Discussions and Key Informant Interviews.
• The qualitative survey will be executed across 3LGAs in Kebbi state where the project is being executed.
• The study will utilize a purposive sampling plan to optimize the range and diversity of the participants, making sure that we possess a diversity of participants across evaluation benchmarks which may shape SMC and EPI programming.
• Furthermore, the KIIs part of the qualitative analysis will be executed either virtually or in-person among two (2) national, two (2) sub-national level regulatory framework makers, two (2) programme managers and 12 health workers – four (4) from each LGA (covering LGA-level malaria and immunization head amongst others) that possess background and comprehension of the SMC and EPI programs (2 + 2 + 2 + 12 = 18 KIIs).
• Two groups of FGDs will be executed with local key stakeholders, fathers and caregivers of children age 5-20 months in each LGA (2 X 3 X 3 = 18 FGDs), will be executed in person (face-to-face) in groups of 10 -12 participants and will take place in a communal space in participant’s networks.
• The six (6) interviewers to be hired will form 3 groups/teams (two (2) persons per group/team). One group/team to carry out 2 interviews daily. The 3 groups to carry out 6 interviews daily. The 36 interviews (18 FGDs and 18 KIIs = 36 interviews) will be executed in 6 days.
• For the transcription/translation, assuming an interview was executed in a local language, one person will transcribe and then convert such document as one day level-of-attempt. In such circumstance, the six interviewers will transcribe and convert 36 recordings in 6 days, making a total of 12 days’ work for the six interviewers.
• However, where an interview was executed in English Language, two recordings will be transcribed by the analysis support for one (1) day level-of-attempt.
• All the interviews and FGDs will be executed by local researchers. A second analysis support will be show to take notes and document observations.
• If the participants approval to audio recording, the interviews and discussions will be documented and transcribed.

Appropriateness:

Group, HW perceptions of suit/importance of seasonal communication tone to vaccine uptake advancement.

Adoption & Fidelity:

HW and CHWs’ uptake of hybrid approach and execution uniformity.

Specific Duty

• Offer technical monitoring for execution of the qualitative aspect in tandem with the project analysis procedure.
• Formulate the study procedure and site documented guide
• Assist the translation and back translation of site advisors and questionnaires to the local language (Hausa).
• Assist preparatory initiatives for development and for site data collection.
• Educate all analysis staff in the qualitative survey on carrying out the data collection process.
• Coordinate with the Manager, project to acquire necessary analysis resources.
• Coordinate with the Manager, project to organize a list of key informants and FGD participants and organize for interviews and FGDs
• Promptly increase any methodological question arising during the data collection process which may affect compliance to the analysis procedure.
• Organize the data collection process and allocate routine duty to interviewers.
• Head the planning of interviews and FGDs.
• Carry out key informants’ interviews
• Organize the company of FGD sessions.
• Organize data evaluation strategy for FGDs and KIIs
• Supervise recording transcription and translation.
• Collate and condense all transcriptions
• Carry out data evaluation and documentation drafting
• Collate and documentation routine concerns and hurdles to the Manager, project and the Chief Investigator.
• Collate and send all evaluation materials which includes soft copies of all FGDs and KII data sets.
• Make sure that all recording devices are accounted for.
• Assume accountability for adherence with secrecy and guard standardized processes to guarantee respondent confidentiality is protected.
• Organize and send the documentation in MS word and a overview of key findings in MS PowerPoint slides.

Staff Specification Crucial:

• PhD in Community-related, Behavioural or Health Sciences.
• A minimum of 10 years of expertise in carry out and management of qualitative studies.
• A minimum of 10 years of expertise in directing qualitative analysis.
• Exhibited competence in thorough qualitative analysis design, data collection and data evaluation methods
• Robust critical thinking and capability to transparently show produce and report results, draw practical findings, make strategic guidance and to organize clearly articulated documentation without delay
• Expertise in top reviews, surveys and evaluation is highly preferred.
• Practical expertise in group entry & mobilization methods.
• Expertise in application of qualitative statistical softwares which includes Nvivo and atlas Ti etc
• Demonstrable expertise in data transcription
• Computer literacy to be capable to operate on electronic data collection applications.
• Good facilitation competencies.
• Robust documented and verbal competencies in Hausa, ideally mother tongue.
• Robust documented and verbal competencies in English.

Wanted:

• Effective communication competencies and expertise in participatory structured approach.
• Creative, inspired, and capable to operate with minimal oversight.
• Accreditation in Monitoring and evaluation will be a plus.
• Resident in Kebbi state.
• Mother tongue Hausa.
