Nursing officer at Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF) - Holland in Sokoto

Primary goal of the role

Offering nursing care, treatment and client engagement of patients, according to doctors’ prescriptions, procedures submitted application in service and universal hygiene guidelines/precautions, in order to guarantee the quality and continuity of care for the targeted population.

General Accountabilities

• Knowing, supporting, executing and checking in the universal hygiene guidelines/ precautions, bio-hazard prevention and infection regulate, guard regulations and other procedures and standardized processes in the medical premises and making sure high guidelines of hygiene of his/her operating environment. Respecting medical secrets and secrecy at all times.
• Arranging and carrying out care and treatments according to medical prescriptions, and helping during discussions, routine rounds and other medical standardized processes. Engaging in health education of the patient (and family) as required.
• Recognizing Sexually Gender Based Violence victims and referring them to the medical team so they can accept the necessary treatment. Knowing and is conscious of the value and suitable use of the Post Exposure Prophylaxis (PEP) Kit
• Making sure patients are properly received and installed and that those with lack of autonomy are helped, especially regarding their feeding, personal hygiene, movements and comfort. For ER and OPD nursing officer, making sure triage of patients in waiting zones, wards or during crises, spotting the priority acute/crisis cases, carrying out first assist care and referring them to the doctor as required
• Sending material to be sterilized and recuperates it from sterilization
• Carrying out admission, surveillance and client engagement of patients (i.e. evaluation of the evolution of their state of health and the recognition of any crisis or deterioration
• Carrying and directing managerial standardized processes and documents (fill in patient’s files, forms, consumptions, statistics, registers, health files, etc.), making sure an suitable documented/spoken communication handover, and status updates any troublesome conditions and cases that may arise. Engaging in data collection and keeping doctors/supervisors informed
• Engaging in the department-associated pharmacy and medical tools regulate and servicing & maintenance (quality and its functioning, storage terms, client engagement of expired drugs inventories, inventory takes of medicines and material at every team changeover making sure no material is taken out of nursing zone/wards without prior authorisation, etc.)
• Execute cleaning and minor servicing & maintenance for biomedical tools used. Following the end-user guides and procedures and warn manager in case of malfunctioning.
• Directing and development nursing officer-helps, diet-focused assistants, janitors and other associated employees under his/her oversight, making sure collaboration and compliance to all suitable procedures and standardized processes.
