About the Position

The GBV Prevention Officer will head endeavors to design, execute, and oversee gender-based violence (GBV) prevention programs within at risk networks. This position concentrates on lifting consciousness, building local capacity, and nurturing public involvement to reduce and prevent instances of GBV. The Officer will work alongside group members, key stakeholders, voluntary assistants, and associates to guarantee the efficient dispatch of GBV prevention initiatives, which includes development, workshops, and mass consciousness events.

Core tasks

  • Execute GBV prevention programs, marketing, and initiatives tailored to group needs.
  • Carry out evaluations to recognize GBV risks and design locally-driven interventions for at risk populations.
  • Work alongside group members and key stakeholders, and local entities to promote understanding about GBV and advance entry to solutions through an current referral pathway.
  • Track, oversee, and build the capacity of group voluntary assistants to carry out mobilization, sensitization, consciousness-lifting, and teaching initiatives in camps and local networks.
  • Be the head in organizing and mobilizing networks for mass consciousness marketing and calendar events which includes International Women’s Day, Girl Child Day, Day of African child and the 16 Days of Activism.
  • Coordinate development sessions, workshops, and dialogues on GBV prevention, gender equality, GBV Case Synchronization (GBV CC), and Protection from Sexual Exploitation and Abuse (PSEA), and collaborate with participants to formulate action strategies.
  • Offer learning and assist to teams, and voluntary assistants on GBV prevention and response plans.
  • Provide with tools group members and participants with expertise and resources to prevent GBV in their local situations.
  • Engage in synchronization sessions and networks attentive on gender-based violence and women's rights.
  • Engage in marketing and regulatory framework dialogues to advance gender equality and protection for at risk groups.
  • Track advancement of GBV prevention initiatives, collect data, and organize documentation on programme results.
  • Supervise the facilitation and execution of GBV prevention plans, which includes male relation initiatives, the SASA Together! approach, and other transformative programs. 
  • Assist ongoing public involvement to advance acceptance of GBV prevention initiatives and approaches.

Certification and Expertise

  • Bachelor's degree/Higher national diploma in Gender Studies, Community-related Sciences or relevant field.
  • MSC in above fields is a plus.
  • At least 2 years of applicable operating expertise in gender transformative programming and integration ideally in a humanitarian and/or development circumstance.
