Job Description

Position Overview

We are seeking a DPA Officer who will Ensure ISM Code Adherence and Serve as the link between ship and shore to preserve efficient Safety Management Operational structures. Advance Safety & Pollution Prevention Manage activities to reduce risks and uphold a robust safety culture.

Primary duties

  • Serve as the primary reach out between ship and shore for all safety, pollution prevention, and legal adherence matters.
  • Track and ensure the execution of the organization’s Safety Management System (SMS) onboard vessels.
  • Carry out internal safety audits, inspections, and assessments in line with ISM Code and flag/state qualifications.
  • Guarantee promptness status updates and investigative of incidents, near misses, and non-conformities; check in on corrective actions.
  • Preserve current records and recordkeeping necessary under the ISM Code and other relevant maritime rules.
  • Coordinate with flag state, classification societies, and compliance-related bodies which includes NIMASA.
  • Offer assistance and direction to vessel crews on safety, ecological protection, and business industry standards.
  • Arrange and supervise safety drills, crisis preparedness initiatives, and crew development.
  • Engage in consistent vessel visits to evaluate SMS performance and safety culture.
  • Help during the formation and ongoing development of health and safety protocols and documented guides.

Qualifications & Credentials

  • Bachelor's degree/Higher national diploma in Marine Engineering, Nautical Science, or a relevant field.
  • At least 3 years’ expertise in a similar DPA or marine safety position.
  • Seafaring profile or expertise operating closely with seaport operations is a robust advantage.
  • DPA Accreditation in accordance with ISM Code qualifications.
  • STCW Accreditation is a plus.
  • Health, safety, and environment Level Qualifications or NEBOSH will be an added advantage.
  • Solid understanding of ISM Code, SOLAS, MARPOL, and other maritime safety rules.
  • Clear articulation, documentation drafting, and analytical abilities.
  • Capability to operate independently and make sound safety-associated decisions.
  • Skilled in MS Workspace and safety management software operational structures.
