Job Description
Objective of the Position
To advance most effective Infant and Young Child Feeding (IYCF) procedures, coordinate nutrition counseling, and assist group-level consciousness and client recommendations in alignment with the CASCADE project targets. Nutrition champions concentration on teaching, assisting, and linking group members to nutrition solutions. Their work is vital in preventing malnutrition, supporting conduct adjustment, and supporting healthy diets.
Primary duties
- Aids Group Guided Support Sensitization/Participants relation by lifting consciousness on the value of exclusive breastfeeding for the first 6 months, suitable complementary feeding after 6 months and supporting usage of Cascade Food full operational cycle (Orange Fleshed Sweet potatoes-OFSP, Gboma Sika, Soya Beans among other foods) during pregnancy and lactation.
- Compelling traditional and religious key stakeholders to advocate conductual adjustment in dietary procedures.
- Assist Group Guided Support for Nutrition solutions at group levelSupport group consciousness on hygiene procedures using Key Household Hygiene PracticesWork with Group Standard enhancement team facilitators to assist hygiene advancement at household’s level.
- Lectures families on how to organize nutritious meals using local foods which includes Orange Fleshed Sweet potatoes-OFSP, Gboma Sika, Soya Beans among other foods), hygiene and safe food managing, the signs of malnutrition and when to request assistance.
- Aids women entry Antenatal Care Solutions at facilities/group Nutrition Education session on procedures through coordinating Radio listening groups for SBCCFacilitating town hall sensitizations.
- Assisting local women’s groups (VSLA, SILC) to lead household-level nutrition enhancements.
- Enhance child diets quality through supporting local procedures.
- Visits pregnant women and caregivers of young children at home to reinforce key nutrition messages using IEC Materials, motivate presence at antenatal care or growth supervising sessions, offer counseling on breastfeeding, child feeding, and maternal nutrition, evaluate hygiene procedures and assist households on advancement procedures, finalize home visitation resources and answer to the Case Managers and coordinate check in groups and report to higher support tier.
- Helps health workers during every month weighing and screening sessions, assist document children’s weight and Mid-Upper Arm Circumference (MUAC) periodic after every 6 months, clarify outcomes to caregivers and motivate them to act if a child is vulnerable, track and documentation facility-based Growth supervising data and other data that may be allocated. Supports Mother-to-Mother Assist Groups where women can distribute experiences, learn from each other, assist one another in practicing good nutrition, grown Cascade Food full operational cycle for usage and assist women expertise advancement through coordinating / supplying IYCF communication tone leveraging VSLA Sessions.
- Recognizes and refer malnourished children or pregnant/lactating women with diet-focused risk to health facilities, supplementary feeding programs, Case Managers or other solutions and collaborate with SAA Champions to compliment conduct change for women. Promotes households to grow their own nutritious foods (like vegetables or fruits) to enhance diet diversity and advance uptake and utilizations of food recipes. Keeps simple records of households visited, client recommendations made, group sessions executed and data status updates.
- Documentation initiatives to the Case Manager or Health and dietary Technical specialist
