Position Overview
The Certification of Occupancy Officer is in charge of processing, checking, and issuing Certifications of Occupancy in line with government rules and rules. The position ensures proper recordkeeping, adherence with statutory qualifications, and the servicing & maintenance of precise land records to assist efficient land management and guard of tenure.
Primary duties
- Accept, evaluate, and process applications for Certifications of Occupancy.
- Confirm candidates’ documents, land ownership requests, and survey strategies in line possessing applicable legal provisions and rules.
- Coordinate with Survey, Town Organizing, Lawful, and Appraisal departments to verify precision and adherence of applications.
- Coordinate assessment of land/real estate for confirmation before authorization.
- Organize and advance strategic guidance for authorization of C of O to the suitable authority.
- Preserve current records of all applications, authorizations, and issued Certifications of Occupancy.
- Advise candidates on qualifications, standardized processes, and timelines for acquiring a C of O.
- Help in the solution of disputes or discrepancies arising during C of O processing.
- Make sure that fees and statutory charges are evaluated and paid before issuance of Certifications.
- Prepare, evaluate, and modify C of O documents before they are signed by the authorizing authority (e.g., Governor or Minister).
- Guarantee adherence with the Land Use Act, organizing rules, and state government rules.
- Assist the digitization and archival of land records for transparency and effectiveness.
- Organize periodic documentation on C of O applications and issuance.
Credentials & Qualifications
- Bsc in Estate Management, Urban & Regional Organizing, Surveying, Law, Land Management, or relevant field.
- Expertise in land tenure operational structures, real estate law, and the Land Use Act.
- At least 2–5 years related experience in land management or real estate recordkeeping.
- Robust logical and recordkeeping competencies.
- Competence in MS Workspace and land management software (Geographic information system expertise is a plus).
- Effective communication and people skills.
- Honesty and reliability, meticulousness, and the capability to manage private information.
