Job Description

Objective of Position

Directs and supervises the day-to-day activities of ACALAN in order to attain the strategic targets of the Workspace, those of the Department of HHS/Community-related Development, Culture and Sports Directorate’s entire targets. 

Main Processes

  • Designs and executes rules, programs and projects to attain the Academy’s strategic targets. 
  • Supervises the work of the Academy, manages direct documentation and ensures on-time completion of the workspace’s targets through its outputs, which are expressed through employee output evaluated in line with the respective regulatory framework and system.
  • Designs plans and programs to support to the efficient execution of applicable AU Regulatory framework Organs Decisions; 
  • Ensures the dispatch of the workspace’s yearly targets in line with the directorate’s entire targets and ensures strong and prompt supervising and status updates;
  • Delivers engineering guidance and ensures productive functioning of all Units inside the Workspace
  • Engages participants within Members States and Regional Economic Networks (RECs)/Regional Mechanisms (RMs) and applicable international entities in designing and executing plans. 
  • Sustains thematic strategic collaborations in assist of the mandate of the Workspace;  
  • Sustains consistent operating relations with top level participants in Member States and work collaboratively institutions in the implementation of the Workspace’s mandate.  
  • Speaks for the company and communicates its role at professional forums. 
  • Supports to the project setup of periodic financial and financial plan implementation documentation and track financial plan implementation at division level. 
  • Ensures the efficient management of capital supported to the company;  
  • Supervises risk inside the Workspace and endorses risk reduction plans 
  • Supports to the development of the unit-specific business continuity strategy and ensures execution at division level 
  • Sustains a positive work environment that supports partnership and information exchanging and is conducive to attracting, maintaining, and inspiring multifaceted skilled. 

Specific Duties:

  • Start the project setup and formulation of suitable program, rules and plans connected with the African Academy of Languages (ACALAN) at the continental level and in supervising their execution within Member States.
  • Organize program and financial plan proposals, project and financing proposals and concerning program of the Academy.
  • Set direction for the Academy's initiatives, strategies, key focuses, and processes and coordinate information exchange and teamwork in the Academy and with other Divisions in the Directorate/Department.
  • Track business initiatives and program execution in terms of spending and substance and organize advancement documentation with strategic guidance for corrective action to the Director as required. Ensure dispatch of initiatives.
  • Organize and track every facet of ACALAN's mandate and offer proficiency, regulatory framework guidance and engineering guidance inside the Department of Health, Humanitarian Affairs and Community-related Development (HHS) and African Union Fee (AUC).
  • Support for and sensitize Member States and other participants on obligations of Heads of State and Government with regards to the core initiatives of ACALAN.
  • Organize and oversee Pastoral Professional forums and other sessions and initiatives which includes the project setup of documents and documentation.
  • Advance, organize and harmonize the initiatives and program of the sectors/units inside the Workspace and possessing applicable directorates/departments of the Fee.
  • Study and evaluate issue conditions and key practices and strategy and harmonize associated program and concerns in Members States in addition to worldwide obligations in engagement to program zones inside the Academy.
  • Stand for the Workspace in all sessions and initiatives connected with ACALAN and documentation back on concerns discussed and on action necessary; help the Director in optimizing teamwork and partnership possessing applicable departments of the Fee, Member States. UN Agencies, AU associates, expert institutions and Nongovernmental entities (NGO's) and other applicable entities.
  • Advance African and International regional teamwork in partnership with Member States, RECs and inter-governmental entities, Nonprofit organizations especially in executing decisions and AU Strategies of Action.
  • To guarantee entire management of the Academy; which includes manpower planning concerns, effectiveness, QA, and grievance.
  • To organize ACALAN's financial plan, oversee it and asset mobilize to secure additional financing for the execution of program.
  • To generate and send periodic documentation on initiatives which includes specific missions and advancement documentation on the execution of various regulatory framework instruments and decisions to the ACALAN's programming concentration.
  • To execute any other obligations as may be allocated.

Tenure Of Assignment

The assignment will be made on a consistent term agreement for a period of three (3) years, of which the first twelve months shall be assessed as a probationary period.
