Position Overview

A top healthcare facility in Port Harcourt is inviting applications from certified and agile nursing experts to fill the role of Matron (Chief Nursing officer). This is a critical executive function accountable for managing the nursing department to guarantee dispatch of outstanding patient care, productive employees management, and compliance to healthcare guidelines.

Primary duties

  • Offer strategic executive guidance and direction to the nursing team, nurturing an environment that fosters competence, empathy, and ongoing development.
  • Ensure nursing solutions adhere with national and international healthcare rules and hospital rules, preserving high guidelines of patient safety and care.
  • Formulate, execute, and track nursing procedures, standard procedures, and capacity-building plans to improve employees skilled and service standard.
  • Oversee routine nursing processes which includes patient care, employees planning, stock management, and asset distribution.
  • Organize with cross-functional teams, which includes doctors, allied health experts, and hospital management, to coordinate smooth healthcare dispatch.
  • Head effectiveness reviews, carry out employees appraisals, and advance career advancement among nursing staff.
  • Oversee dispute settlement, disciplinary standardized processes, and preserve harmony inside the nursing department.
  • Organize documentation on nursing initiatives and report results to top level management.

Credentials and Competencies

  • Registered Nursing officer with a valid practicing permit from the Nursing and Midwifery Council of Nigeria (NMCN).
  • Bachelor of Nursing Science (B.N.Sc) or equivalent; a MSC in Nursing or Healthcare Management is highly preferred.
  • At least 7 years’ clinical nursing expertise with a minimum of 3 years in a leadership or executive position within a hospital setting.
  • Deep understanding of healthcare rules, nursing guidelines, patient care structured approaches, and hospital certification methods.
  • Effective guidance, corporate, interpersonal, and verbal abilities.
  • Capability to manage high-pressure conditions, make sound decisions, and solve sophisticated challenges.
  • Dedication to uninterrupted career advancement and guidance of nursing employees.
