Job Description

Primary duties

  • Strategize oversee, and organize the design and building of railway track structure, which includes rails, sleepers, ballast, sub-ballast, and formation layers.
  • Oversee track formation project setup, ballast allocation, rail stringing, sleeper laying, fastening operational structures installation, and track welding/alignment.
  • Track track geometry adherence (gauge, cant, alignment, level, and smoothness) using track recording and supervising tools to guarantee conformity with design tolerances and business safety guidelines.
  • Confirm rail materials, fastenings, sleepers, ballast, and geotextiles against authorized requirements and quality benchmarks before formation into the works.
  • Organize with civil works teams to guarantee proper water flow systems operational structures, embankment stability, and subgrade compaction for long-term monitor productivity.
  • Oversee track stressing, welding standardized processes (aluminothermic and flash-butt), and rail neutral temperature adherence.
  • Supervise installation of turnouts, crossovers, growth joints, and other special trackwork, making sure accurate setting out and business compatibility.
  • Execute and track safety procedures, method statements, and work sequences to minimise risks during track building initiatives.
  • Coordinate with alignment, bridge, and signaling teams to guarantee consolidation of permanent way works inside the entire railway corridor.
  • Offer technical input for as-built recordkeeping, servicing & maintenance documented guides, and handover documentation.

Certification

  • bachelor's in engineering / Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or Railway Engineering (Master's degree in Railway Engineering/Structure preferred).
  • COREN registration (A plus).
  • Membership of Nigerian Society of Engineers (NSE) and/or international permanent way or railway engineering specialist bodies preferred.

Expertise:

  • At least 7 years’ post-certification expertise in permanent way engineering for mainline or high-capacity railway projects.
  • Established history in track design, building, quality assurance, and initiating.
  • Expertise with AREMA, UIC, and/or BS EN railway guidelines for track design and building.
  • Participation in both onsite design assessments and on-location oversight.

Specialized abilities:

  • Competence in track design and supervising software (e.g., Bentley Rail Track, AutoCAD Civil 3D, or similar).
  • Expertise in track welding methods, ballast grading, water flow systems operational structures, and track formation engineering.
  • Deep knowledge of railway building plant and tools (e.g., tamping machines, ballast authorities, rail threaders).
  • Capability to analyze track alignment and setting-out drawings with high precision.

Interpersonal abilities:

  • Effective guidance and team synchronization abilities for multi-disciplinary railway projects.
  • Outstanding issue resolution and strategic judgment competencies in agile on-site terms.
  • Clear communication competencies for communication link between service providers, advisors, and project coordination teams.
