Job Description
Duties
- Carry out / Familiarize self with desk assessments of current WASH data and documentation applicable to the project zone.
- Engage in pre-building on-site surveys and evaluations to recognize appropriate sites for boreholes and sanitation facilities, contemplating technical practicality, group needs, and ecological factors.
- Formulate technical designs and requirements for solar-powered boreholes, VIP toilets, and any other organized WASH structure, conforming to national and international WASH guidelines.
- Organize Invoices of Quantities (BOQs) for building materials and tools.
- Coordinate possessing applicable regulatory bodies to acquire necessary licenses and authorizations for building initiatives.
- Help during the formation of a WASH development strategy for networks on process and servicing & maintenance (O&M) of the facilities.
Building Stage:
- Supervise the selection of certified service providers through a transparent offering process.
- Offer technical direction and assist to service providers during building, making sure compliance to designs, requirements, and quality benchmarks.
- Carry out consistent on-site inspections to track building advancement, recognize and handle any possibility concerns, and ensure workplace safety and wellness procedures are followed.
- Oversee and record all building initiatives, which includes routine data records, photographs, and technical documentation
Post-building Stage:
- Supervise the initiating of finished boreholes and sanitation facilities.
- Coordinate development sessions for networks on the proper use, process, and servicing & maintenance (O&M) of the facilities.
- Track the capability and long-term viability of the WASH facilities during the starting post-building period.
- Organize a concluding project documentation documenting the full scope of WASH intervention process, which includes design, building, hurdles encountered, and lessons learned.
Outputs:
- Inception documentation outlining the WASH Engineer's work strategy and structured approach.
- Thorough technical designs and requirements for boreholes, VIP toilets, and other WASH structure.
- Invoices of Quantities (BOQs) for building materials and tools.
- Building supervising documentation with recorded observations and strategic guidance.
- Development materials for group O&M of WASH facilities.
- Concluding project documentation condensing the full scope of WASH intervention.
Qualifications
- Academic qualification in Civil Engineering, Water Assets Engineering, or a relevant field.
- At least 5 years of industry experience in WASH engineering, with a established history in designing and directing water stock and sanitation projects.
- Proven expertise during planning phase and building of solar-powered boreholes and VIP toilets in humanitarian or development situations.
- Deep knowledge of national and international WASH guidelines and standard procedures.
- Expertise operating in difficult environments, ideally in dispute-affected zones.
- Clear articulation, interpersonal, and collaborative ability.
- Fluency in English, Kanuri & Hausa languages and the capability to convey productively with local networks.
- Competence in using applicable WASH engineering software and resources.
