Job Description

Objective of Position

  • The Transport and Logistics coordinator will assist Africa CDC’s Stock Chain Division in making sure the productive and on-time completion of health products across Member States.
  • Status updates to the Warehouse and Logistics Team supervisor, the officer will oversee transport processes, organize shipments during community health crises, and guarantee adherence with AU logistics standardized processes.
  • This position is critical to Africa CDC’s capability to take action swiftly to health crises and assist health system adaptability across the continent.

Main Processes

  • Formulate and execute transport and logistics plans to assist the prompt and cost-efficient dispatch of community health inventory and tools. Strategy routes, evaluate transport modalities, and organize shipment plans across regional and continental processes
  • Ensure the smooth implementation of daily logistics processes, which includes incoming and outgoing shipments, customs clearance, and final-mile dispatch, in partnership with internal teams, Member States, and logistics service vendors.
  • Supervise the management of vehicles and associated logistics assets, making sure deployment readiness, proper recordkeeping, servicing & maintenance planning, and usage tracking in line with AU rules.
  • Make sure that all logistics and transport processes follow Africa CDC, AU, and international guidelines, which includes safety, guard, and legal adherence. Recognize and minimize logistical risks, especially in crisis-management settings.
  • Preserve precise records and recordkeeping of all transport and logistics initiatives. Offer consistent documentation and dashboards to guide strategic judgment and effectiveness supervising

Specific Duties

  • Arrange and track the movement of medical and crisis inventory across Africa CDC’s logistical corridors.
  • Organize international and domestic freight (air, road, sea) with logistics vendors and customs governing bodies.
  • Organize shipping directions and guarantee promptness dispatch and receipt of consignments.
  • Engage in rapid deploying teams to assist community health crises by coordinating logistics assist for Africa CDC missions.
  • Pre-role critical logistics assets and inventory in synchronization with regional warehouse hubs and crisis processes centers
  • Coordinate customs clearance standardized processes for humanitarian shipments.
  • Sustain connections with national governing bodies and border agencies to accelerate clearance and reduce bottlenecks
  • Coordinate with pre-certified transport service vendors and track their effectiveness against SLAs.
  • Offer inputs for procurement methods for transport and logistics solutions, which includes TORs, technical reviews, and effectiveness assessments
  • Organize the movement of inventory between central and regional warehouses and site sites.
  • Help in inventory replenishment organizing and prompt allocation of goods based on programmatic needs.
  • Track logistics KPIs (dispatch head times, transport cost effectiveness, fleet accessibility) and offer logical findings.
  • Record lessons learned and support to the development of logistics SOPs and industry standards
  • Assist Member States in strengthening their national logistics and transport capacities, especially during PHEs.
  • Arrange development sessions on logistics management, fleet safety, and crisis transport standardized process
  • Any other associated tasks may be allocated by supervisors.

Or

A Bsc in Stock Chain Management, Logistics, Business Management, or a relevant field requiring at least 5 years of related experience in logistics, transport management, or stock chain processes, ideally in an international company or a sophisticated crisis environment.

Necessary Competencies:

  • Outstanding verbal and professional writing competencies in any of the AU operating languages.
  • Good team lead and synchronization competencies.
  • Solid understanding of freight, customs, and multi-modal transport processes.
  • Capability to oversee logistics during health crises and rapid deployments.
  • Proficient in arranging sophisticated logistics initiatives across various countries.
  • Clear and clear communication with internal teams, vendors, and national governing bodies.
  • Capacity to evaluate logistics effectiveness data and enhance dispatch processes.
  • Skilled in Office productivity software and logistics/Enterprise platform planning operational structures (e.g., SAP, WMS).

Tenure of Assignment:

The Assignment will be made on a temporary agreement for a period of one (1) year, of which the first three (3) months will be assessed as a probationary period. Thereafter, the agreement may be renewed for a similar period subject to financing accessibility, acceptable effectiveness and accepted outputs.
