Position Overview

The Assistant Chief Health, safety, and environment will help the Chief of HSE in executing and preserving the Workplace safety and wellness Management System across Dangote Cement’s Transport. The position includes top Health, safety, and environment audits, carrying out risk evaluations, supporting an environment that fosters safety, and making sure adherence with national and international Health, safety, and environment rules.

Duties

  • Assist the development and execution of Health, safety, and environment rules, standardized processes, and programs.
  • Carry out consistent Health, safety, and environment audits and inspections to recognize and minimize risks.
  • Work alongside management and employees to advance a robust safety culture.
  • Head Health, safety, and environment development programs to guarantee all employees are well-informed and conforming with safety rules.
  • Preserve current expertise in Health, safety, and environment legislation and industry standards.
  • Explore incidents and accidents, offering strategic guidance for corrective actions.
  • Organize and show Health, safety, and environment effectiveness documentation for executive review.
  • Serve as a point of reach out for external audits and inspections.
  • Help with the development of crisis-management strategies and carry out drills.

Qualifications

  • Bsc in Ecological Science, Work-related Health & Safety, Engineering, or a relevant field.
  • MSC or applicable postgraduate accreditation (e.g., NEBOSH,) is a plus.
  • Membership in identified specialist Health, safety, and environment bodies (e.g., IOSH, ISPON, or equivalent).
  • At least 6 years of progressive Health, safety, and environment expertise, with a minimum of 2–3 years in a executive or top level managerial position.
  • Expertise with legal adherence, risk mitigation strategy, and system issue investigative in elevated-risk processes.
  • Solid understanding of national and international Health, safety, and environment rules, guidelines, and industry standards.
  • Skilled in hazard recognition, risk evaluation, and safety audits.
  • Outstanding executive guidance, team lead, and team synchronization abilities.
  • Capability to shape business teams and top level participants on Health, safety, and environment matters.
