Job Description

Overview

  • An Ocular Technician's main position is to assist ophthalmologists by executing diagnostic tests like refractions and graphics site tests, managing medications, and taking patient records.
  • Primary duties comprise of operating improved tools like OCTs and fundus cameras, coordinating EMRs, preserving tools, and teaching patients on standardized processes and eye care.
  • Qualifications often comprise of a secondary school certificate, a accredited ocular technician programme, clear expression and planning abilities, and expertise in a clinical ophthalmology setting.

Work tasks Patient Care:

  • Acquire and record thorough patient medical and ophthalmic records.
  • Clarify diagnostic standardized processes, treatment strategies, and proper medication use to patients.
  • Offer patient comfort and assist during examinations and standardized processes.

Diagnostic Running test:

  • Execute graphics acuity, refraction, and retinoscopy tests.
  • Operate and analyze outcomes from improved tools like Optical Coherence Tomography (OCT), Fundus Cameras, and Corneal Topography devices.
  • Carry out intraocular pressure (IOP) measurements using tonometry.

Clinical Assist:

  • Manage eye drops or other medications as directed.
  • Help ophthalmologists during patient exams and minor standardized processes.
  • Oversee patient flow to reduce wait times and ensure smooth clinic processes.

Document Keeping & Tools:

  • Preserve precise and current Electronic Medical Records (EMR).
  • Preserve, calibrate, and diagnose issues ocular diagnostic tools.
  • Help with stock management of medical inventory.

Competencies:

  • Clear articulation and patient care competencies.
  • Robust corporate and handling multiple responsibilities abilities.
  • Meticulousness and documented guide dexterity.
  • Competence with EMR operational structures and common ocular diagnostic tools.
  • Basic comprehension of medical terminology specific to ophthalmology.

Expertise:
