Job Description
Position Overview
The Radiation Oncologist will be in charge of top the clinical components of radiotherapy, which includes patient assessment, treatment organizing, and ongoing care throughout the cancer journey. This position make sure that treatment regimens are evidence-based, precise, and in sync with worldwide industry standards. By operating in close partnership with medical physicists, radiation therapists, and oncology nurses, the Radiation Oncologist will play a vital position in delivering most effective patient results and progressing cancer care in Nigeria.
Primary duties
- Assess, diagnose, and stage cancer patients to decide appropriateness for radiotherapy.
- Prescribe radiation treatment regimens, making sure alignment with clinical standard procedures and patient-specific needs.
- Work alongside medical physicists and dosimetrists to formulate and authorize treatment strategies, which includes improved modalities (IMRT, VMAT, SRS, SBRT).
- Oversee treatment dispatch by radiation therapists, making sure precision and patient safety.
- Track patient response to treatment, oversee side outcomes, and modify prescriptions as needed.
- Record clinical decisions, treatment strategies, and advancement notes in adherence with medical and compliance guidelines.
- Head multidisciplinary tumor board discussions, supporting to comprehensive treatment plans.
- Stay abreast of new progress updates in oncology and radiotherapy and combine advancements into practice.
- Engage in QA programs, unit-specific audits, and ongoing development programs.
- Educate, train, and assist entry-level clinicians, residents, and medical students.
Qualifications Credentials
- Medical Academic qualification (MBBS or equivalent) with residency development in Radiation Oncology.
- Fellowship or board accreditation in Radiation Oncology (FMCR, FWACS, or international equivalent).
- Valid practicing permit from the Medical and Dental Council of Nigeria (MDCN) or qualification for registration.
- Solid understanding of modern radiotherapy modalities, which includes IGRT, IMRT, VMAT, and stereotactic treatments.
Expertise Qualifications
- At least 5 - 7 years post-residency hands-on patient care in radiation oncology.
- Documented performance of treating multifaceted cancers with improved radiotherapy methods.
- Expertise in executive guidance positions within multidisciplinary oncology teams is a plus.
