Position Overview

• The Medical Physical scientist at Kano Cancer Treatment Center (KCTC) ensures the safe, precise, and efficient dispatch of radiotherapy treatments through detail-oriented calculations, treatment organizing, and thorough QA.
• This position is central to safeguarding patient safety, optimizing treatment results, and preserving international guidelines of cancer care.
• By operating closely with radiation oncologists, dosimetrists, therapists, and engineers, the Medical Physicists offer the scientific and specialized skill that underpins modern radiotherapy.

Primary duties

• Execute precise radiation dose calculations and treatment organizing to guarantee most effective dispatch of prescribed therapy.
• Carry out thorough QA (Quality assurance) and quality assurance Quality control tests on radiotherapy tools (which includes Varian Halcyon and TrueBeam LINACs) to guarantee precise effectiveness.
• Calibrate and preserve dosimetry tools, making sure adherence with national and international safety guidelines.
• Work alongside radiation oncologists and therapists in conceptualizing and checking individualized treatment strategies.
• Execute image-directed and improved radiotherapy methods which includes IMRT, VMAT, and SRS/SBRT.
• Formulate, record, and ensure adherence to radiation health and safety protocols for employees, patients, and visitors.
• Diagnose issues technical or dosimetric concerns and endorse initiatives promptly.
• Support to unit-specific audits, certification, and adherence with compliance-related governing bodies.
• Educate, train, and assist clinical employees and entry-level physicists in radiotherapy physics and Quality assurance procedures.
• Engage in clinical analysis and ongoing development programs to improve cancer treatment at KCTC.

Qualifications Credentials

• MSC (Master's degree) or higher in Medical Physics or relevant field (PhD preferred).
• Accreditation/registration with a identified body (e.g., RRBN, IOMP, AAPM, or equivalent).
• Exhibited expertise in radiation dosimetry, radiotherapy organizing operational structures, and Quality assurance guidelines.
• Solid experience in the use and servicing & maintenance of linear accelerators and imaging operational structures.

Expertise Qualifications

• At least 3 - 5 years of hands-on patient care as a Medical Physical scientist in a radiotherapy Center.
• Proven competence in radiotherapy calculations, treatment organizing, and QA.
• Expertise with Varian operational structures and improved radiotherapy methods is highly preferred.
