Role summary

We are looking for a proficient and specialist Chinese-English Translator/Interpreter to join our team in Nigeria.  The successful applicant will be in charge of offering precise and fluent translation (documented) and analysis (spoken) solutions between Chinese (Mandarin) and English in various business, technical, or diplomatic situations.

Primary duties

  • Convert documents, documentation, emails, and other documented materials from Chinese to English and vice versa.
  • Offer simultaneous or consecutive analysis for sessions, professional forums, talks, and other events.
  • Ensure translations are culturally suitable and preserve the authentic meaning.
  • Help in cross-cultural information exchange and coordinate between Chinese and English-speaking customers/associates.
  • Proofread and refine translated materials for precision and uniformity.

Qualifications

  • Native or near-native competence in Chinese (Mandarin)  and  fluent in English
  • At least HSK Level 4 (or equivalent accreditation) in Chinese competence.
  • Demonstrated expertise in translation and analysis, ideally in business, lawful, technical, or diplomatic fields.
  • Deep knowledge of Chinese and Nigerian/Western cultures to guarantee contextually suitable translations.
  • Clear articulation and people skills.
  • Capability to operate under pressure and deliver on time.

Preferred Credentials:

  • Academic qualification in Translation, Linguistics, Chinese Studies, or a relevant field.
  • Previous expertise operating in Nigeria or West Africa
  • Understanding with industry-specific terminology (e.g., petroleum sector, building, trade, lawful).
