Position Overview

The Engineering Laboratory Technologist aids training, analysis, and practical development by preserving and operating engineering lab tools, getting ready strategic trials, making sure regulatory adherence, and offering technical support to students and faculty. The position ensures the smooth functioning of engineering labs across disciplines which includes mechanical, electrical, civil, or mechatronics engineering.

Primary duties

• Organize laboratory setups and materials for practical sessions, exhibitions, and analysis initiatives.
• Install, calibrate, operate, and preserve engineering laboratory tools and instruments.
• Help faculty and students in carrying out laboratory strategic trials and interpreting outcomes.
• Guarantee alignment to safety guidelines and procedures inside the lab.
• Diagnose issues and fix laboratory instruments and tools as needed.
• Keep precise stock and servicing & maintenance records of lab resources and inventory.
• Educate and mentor students on the proper use of lab tools and health and safety protocols.
• Assist during the formation of new experimental setups and technical standardized processes.
• Track lab usage and documentation any concerns or risks to the unit head.
• Engage in procurement and financial planning methods for lab inventory and tools.

Qualifications

• Education: Bsc or HND qualification (Higher national diploma) in Engineering Tech, Mechanical, Electrical/Electronic, Civil Engineering, or associated discipline.
• Accreditation: Membership or registration possessing applicable specialist or compliance-related bodies is a plus.
• Expertise: 2–3 years operating in an academic, analysis, or industrial engineering laboratory.

• Competence in the use and servicing & maintenance of engineering lab resources and diagnostic tools.
• Robust technical and logical analytical abilities.
• Good expertise in safety rules and quality assurance guidelines.
• Skilled in reading and interpreting technical documented guides and schematics.
• Clear communication and corporate abilities.
• Basic computer competencies for document-keeping and documentation drafting.

Operating Terms:

• Regular engagement with tools and materials in workshop/laboratory settings.
• Use of personal protective tools (PPE) may be necessary.
• May engage lifting, standing, and exposure to noise, dust, or machinery.
